In the books, Uhtred kills Ælfric’s warriors without Ælfric knowing. Takes everything they wore and acted like Bebbanburg warriors. They obviously were let in because people didn’t suspect a thing so when they got in, they tried to run to the High Gate but they failed. There’s two gates, Low and High but Uhtred failed to get past the High one. Ælfric’s son called Uhtred came out and demanded Uhtred blah blah. Then Finan went and took Ælfric, Ælfric’s sons wife and his grandson as hostages. Uhtred killed Ælfric and because he had the other two as captive, Ælfric’s son let them go. That would’ve been so much easier and would’ve made much more sense to me !>
