help finding the right information

If you want to check out an intro to medical coding textbook, my program through the community college used Pearson’s Comprehensive Medical Coding which you can rent on Amazon for $25. A community college program will include classes in medical terminology, a lot of anatomy, healthcare reimbursement, ICD and CPT coding, etc. You most likely wont find anything that will pay you while you’re training, but you can find training materials on the AHIMA and AAPC websites. You may want to look at billing or patient access/front desk jobs to start and study coding in your spare time, and work your way up from there. You will have a tough time finding a coding job right away since they all want you to have 3 years of experience right out of the gate. Look into networking with other coders on LinkedIn - that will help you hear about open positions, keep up with industry news, and read about other’s experiences. Apprentice programs and paid internships are also worth looking into so I would set up alerts for those too.
