How do you get better at transcribing?

I find transcribing to be harder on the ukulele than on the guitar or piano just because there’s not as wide of a pitch range so you may find yourself jumping certain notes up or down an octave just to figure out a line.

Getting better at transcribing: Ear training, learning lots of chord progressions, scales, and chord shapes/inversions, singing, listening to new music, trusting your ear, and doing it a whole lot are things that helped me.

Figure out the chords to simple songs without using tabs to build confidence early on. Starting with super hard stuff will be discouraging and time consuming. It’s way easier if you can hear and start playing the right notes almost immediately.

And finally, purchase Transcribe or another program that slows things down. The reason I like transcribe is you can easily loop sections so once you’ve figured something out you can learn how to play it well in bite sized pieces.
