How much to charge per hour for bike mechanic work?

Bike mechanics are under appreciated and valued, a question I posed

What's riding on your bike?

You

How well should your bike be working to keep you safe?

I'm in Australia but set my own price, I don't or rarely give quotes, my approach is that a bike leaves me in a safe and as best working condition.

I've had numerous peeps asking how much, can you go lower on the price etc, NO is my replyI value what I do even if the customer doesn't understand why I use loose balls in the lower steerer bearing instead of caged, my attitude is that if I don't see a customer or their bike for a year I have done my job properly, I give advice, recommend peeps to stay awhile a show/teach self input, almost all appreciate this realizing yes they are paying for it BUT they and their bike is better off. I have non stop repeat offenders so to speak and the number of txts I send with pictures showing issues or problems where responses are, "you know best, I'll leave it with you" or "I trust what nneds done" or similar.

Differentiate by quality, everyone has a bad story, make yours all good, even if it takes time. I have project bikes in the shed, it takes time to find parts etc that fit as in the bike not just the function, every one has the owner smiling regardless of cost.

Be Better
