Marcus Aurelius, the stoic

“Life is trouble. Only death is not. To be alive is to undo your belt and look for trouble.”

― Alexis Zorba, the Greek Stoic

Other than as a chemical process, Life ---living--- is like art. Not only may we each claim to 'know it when we see it' but we are each free to define it for onesel.

I'd suppose that today, and probably not among individuals who would decide to signup for this sub, what people see as living is greatly shaped by the tropes of modern advertising and consumerism.

Veer too far of those well-troden tracks and you are marginalized by a society that cannot stand to see anything other than a reflection of itself in the mirror.

For myself? "Living" is participating genuinely, authentically in whatever activities I undertake. For me right now, that includes my life with my wife, my work in our garden/home, and my persuit of the understandings of Zen Buddhism.
