Moving to port angeles

cons:

  • Rain. It rains a lot. You may have weeks or months with no or very little sun. If that bothers you, don't move here.
  • amenities: We are pretty far from good doctors, if you need those. Our hospital exists and technically does most things but doesn't always do those things very well. We've got a Walmart and a Costco, no Fred Meyer, Best Buy, Target, malls, or other similar bigger stores. You need to go to Silverdale for those things
  • communities tend to be smaller or non-existent. For me as a developer there's no meet-ups or anything like that nearby. When the Coho is running again, you could go to Canada, but that takes a full day because the ferry doesn't run often. Not sure what you like to do to meet people, but you should check for communities of that type before you come. PA only has 20k people, so it's just not that big of a group. If you're a churchy type, you're good, we've got tons and tons of those.

The pros are obvious...mostly pretty quiet life, beautiful natural scenery, air isn't usually polluted much except during fire season. I like it here. It's out of the rat race. People here complain about the traffic but it's nothing like living in Seattle or SF. (Though we only have one road in and out of town, so there *is* traffic, it's not big and scary people who have only lived here pretend.)
