New Year, same me

Um I did provide a source, your premise on where most gun violence happens is inaccurate and you want solutions her are solutions but I doubt you or anyone else will read it.

I believe responsible gun owners can have access to guns and still have reasonable checks to make them harder to get for those who should not have them.

Obvious first step is Universal background checks for every purchase which includes criminal and mental backgrounds, banning gun purchase from domestic abusers,  no fly list,  mentally ill or immediate family of same.  Waivers for family restrictions could be available based on circumstance.

Registry for all gun purchases to prevent straw purchases and illegal sales tryng to get around background checks.

Renewable licencing for all gun owners with a test to ensure owner understands safe operation and storage of guns including keeping them out of the hands of potentially dangerous friends or family members.

Seizure laws to remove guns from people who are in high risk situations or from those who have guns but have not renewed  thier licence requirements.

Lifting government ban on federal money to do gun violence research by cdc

Repeal of law that shield gun manufacturers from lawsuits over thier products.

Support of development of safe gun technology.

No open carry laws so when a gun is seen in public the intent of the carrier can be assumed hostile.

Assault weapon ban.

High capacity magazine ban

Augmented rate of fire devices ban.

Finally severe penalties for breaking gun laws.  Unlike severe drug laws that didn't work because using drugs is a biological addiction that drives the addicted person to act irrationally and not care about consequences,  gun ownership,  even for criminal purposes, is not a biological addiction and the risk/value proposition of getting caught with an illegal gun that automatically sends you to prison for 20 years is a calculation even a street level criminal can rationally understand.

But even with all of this people will still die from gun violence but hopefully this will save 10s of thousands of lives a year and you can still go hunting,  target shooting and feel safe at home if you need a gun to feel safe.
