Proud to be Single.

Well, I guess I'll roll out the welcome mat to our humble and nearly dead subreddit.

There are a lot of first time posts here that are like yours: Not wrong, but maybe not a healthy focus. See the things is, there's really nothing wrong with people having close/romantic relationships. More over, the choice to be single isn't superior. It's a just a personal choice. The reason I say this is because there's an unfortunate tendency to focus on relationships, and that's really not what this sub should be about. I'd really hate to see this be the /r/childfree of singles, but maybe that's a futile aspiration on my part. There are very few general statements about relationships that really hold in a conversation such as this. The simple fact is relationships are as diverse and strange as individuals. There's really no reason for us to really talk directly about them.

What I like to see on this sub are posts that emphasize what you enjoy about being single. That's not to say things that relationships couldn't have because that's simply not realistic. I like to see people focusing on things that many of us as singles can connect to, without feeling the need to hate on or imply superiority over couples.

This shouldn't be a place for people who just haven't found the right relationship or who are bitter about their most recent break up. This should be a place to enjoy being single. Post about your new hobbies, smaller houses, new (work?) opportunities that might not have been available otherwise, or just spontaneous adventures that maybe a lack of obligations let you pursue. If you have to post about relationships, they shouldn't be the primary focus: Post about your trouble keeping guy/girls from hitting on you, trouble with family accepting the whole single thing, or maybe even how much you love your friends who are in a relationship even if you don't feel the need to be in one yourself.

I like to think the reason our sub is basically dead is because people are too busy enjoying life...
