Public Charging Etiquette

I've only charged a few times since I'm a new EV owner but this was my most recent experience:

  1. EA app showed 2/4 chargers open
  2. Drove to location and 3 out of 4 spots were taken. I parked in spot 3.
  3. Grabbed the cable for the charging station with the screen facing me. The station with the screen facing away from me was for parking spot 4.
  4. After plugging in the cable I noticed the dude in parking spot 4 was already using the cable from my parking spot.
  5. Looked at the charging station for spot 4 and it was out of order which explains why the dude was using charging station 3.
  6. Tried to unplug cable from the car but couldn't. It was locked.
  7. Googled.. how the hell do I release the cable from my car?
    1. Pulled the emergency release from inside the car but that didn't work.
    2. Pressed the unlock button on the remote several times and that finally worked.
  8. Station 2 next to me opened up but by the time I got back in the car someone pulled in to take it.
  9. Uttered profanities and drove home.
