Question about Male Cavaliers.

Update:

So, my wife and I talked and we first decided to bring the Dog in. We created a room for him that we were not using and moved his food, water, and even the house I made for him, along with a bed, and then we put up a doggie gate at the door so he could not get out. First night was a success. Then the next time he started to bark. He NEVER barks. We thought something was wrong and checked on him. Nothing, a couple of hours later, he started to cry/whine, then he started to howl like he was howling at the moon, and as soon as he saw us, stopped at went back to bed. He started howling again a few minutes later. We put him back outside inside the yard. The wife and I decided we were going to get rid of it. She said "Baby, I know you did not want the dog, but I DONT WANT IT EITHER.We need to give it away and get different breed. He was great for me in college but not now." So we got up and went to the animal shelter and gave it up first thing in the morning. Told the person at the desk it was a mistake to have even gotten it. He said a lot of people who grow up with normal dogs like Labs, Golden Retrievers, and the such can't raise a Cav because they are so different. We tried finding a no kill shelter but couldn't. They said he should be quickly adopted. I told them that if he is about to be put down, call us and we will try to give it away to someone. They said that wont be a problem because Cavs are so expensive and popular so they said hell be out and adopted in no time. When we were leaving my wife petted him goodbye and we stayed outside his cage for about 10 minutes to finalize paperwork and as we were walking out, he started to paw at the cage in a desperate manner and started howling again as we walked out. I knew at that time, we had made a mistake by bringing him home to start with. I should have stood my ground and said no and we would have avoided all this. I felt sick to my stomach, but we did the right thing. He should have a home. I am glad that is over. The stress is gone. Hopefully he finds a good home. Not my problem anymore. We are going to adopt a better breed. Looking at a Rottie or a Cattle Dog for our lifestyle.
