I'm currently dealing with the same thing. I've been calling in sick every day for about 2 weeks now and I figure theyll eventually terminate me. They can't call it job abandonment because Im at least attempting to call in. Best thing I can tell you is don't leave any evidence you were fired for misconduct or quit, meaning dont sign anything or communicate about your departure with anyone at work via email or text etc. I'm not sure about your state, but in Florida when you get unemployment the burden of proof is on the employer to prove you were fired or quit. If you say "they told me I was laid off" and they can't prove otherwise, you should be good.
