As someone who believes children should be allowed to medically transition, let me clarify a few things. The reason I believe this isn’t because I think children know best and should be allowed to make these decisions, it’s because I believe doctors know best and should be allowed to make these decisions. As a child I tried to transition and even with the consent of my parents I was still denied access to puberty blockers because the doctor decided it wasn’t right for me. Just because a child wants certain medical treatment does not mean the child gets the treatment unless the doctor agrees. It’s just like anti depressants. Children are allowed to take anti depression medications because if they don’t it could heighten their chances of suicide, so if a doctor thinks it’s right children will be prescribed these medications. It’s the exact same with puberty blockers/hrt. Children being able to consent to sex has nothing to do with their mental or physical health, and even if it were, that would be a decision made by a professional not a child.
