That's not so bad. Thinking we've declined to decadence from a past golden age seems to be a universally human vice, not limited to just the very young or very old. Fair's fair -- here's an excerpt from mine, which I chose for the period details.
Today I went into a public restroom at school and somebody was in one of the stalls taking a shit. The reason that I knew somebody was in the stall taking a shit, however, was not that I heard the sounds of somebody taking a shit. Rather, it was because I heard the faint but unmistakable ticka tick tick ticka of somebody composing text messages on a cell phone. Now, I wonder if the recipient of that message knows that it was written while the author was on the toilet? Did it read, "Hey, I'm taking a shit right now, will meet you in an hour?"
Also, here's one containing an "lj-cut":
I just saw a peculiar commercial on TV. A young couple rows down a gentle river when suddenly their boat springs a leak. The man panics, and certain death seems imminent, but the woman pulls out a tampon and uses it to plug up the hole. Phew! So they're both saved by her quick thinking, and the man expresses his gratitude with a stupid grin. The scene is kind of surreal, and reminds me in a vague way of Exodus 4:24-26. Commercials generally seem pretty tame, so I was a bit surprised to see such a thing. <lj-cut text="Exodus 4:24-26 (NRSV)">
Does anybody remember that commercial? I saw it like, once.
