I blame Nato and more specifically the US for what's happening - the sheer desparation of Afghanistan - compared to even Ukraine - is the result of the US war.

Not only was it not justified to attack Afghanistan (I mean morally Saudi Arabia is just as backward in terms of women's rights), the sheer arrogance that's required by a country to think that it can just import its own society into a completely different context is just mind boggling.

Change would have come regardless of that futile war if there was peace - that's the very nature of human society. But for it to remain and endure it'd have had to come from ordinary Afghans - not dictated by a bureaucrat in DC.

As for the economic suffering today - the US has played a huge role in it. Not only have Afgan central bank resources been frozen - effectively cutting off Afghanistan from normal world trade - but Biden has plundered $3.5 billion from Afghanistan's central bank to be given to 9/11 victims. National resources of a desparately poor country like Afghanistan which could help tens of millions given to a couple of thousands of victims of a terror attack which had nothing to do with either the Taliban or Afghanistan except for the bad luck of Al Qaeda hiding in Afghanistan. Iirc, the Taliban had even said they'd help in finding Al Qaeda, but Bush wanted to go to war regardless.
