I'd like to think that his thoughts would've changed over time - we'll never know.

We do know that he chose to leave that up until the point of his death and the site eventually dying. I just chose a date at random. Now if I had a homepage up and I'd put on there a section about how child pornography isn't abuse and should be legal and later came to change my mind I would quickly take it down.

And we know it wasn't something he put up and forgot about because he made changes to the page over time but the child porn defense stayed up. Here's a copy of it in 2012 where he's changed other sections but left the child porn defense up. He's also added a blurb at the bottom about supporting the violent overthrow of the government.
