Are State Certified Recovery Specialist trainings legit?

You can generally make about as much as you would working at a gas station, if not less. Eastern US tops out around $15-$17 an hour and if you get full time hours or benefits, you’re lucky. Please do look at the job descriptions and the pay of some of these positions in your area and know that what you’re going to be doing is twice the work nobody wants to do and half the stuff someone would actually enjoy doing. The insurance plans listed in job descriptions for these kinds of jobs don’t always apply for the jobs they’re listed on.

Addiction recovery programs that do more of that and less mental health intervention typically want multiple years of clean time and the vast majority want heavy twelve step program backgrounds. A lot of them do twelve step facilitation and have a line out the door of applicants who have experience in sponsorship in the rooms, odds of getting in anywhere that isn’t desperate without having taken people through the steps aren’t great. Odds of getting a job having never formally worked the steps is zero unless they’re all process group and IOP, CBT / DBT etc and these programs don’t generally utilize CRS the way you might expect. Many of the programs that do use CRS personnel work as catch-alls that include straight mental illness crisis folks as well as addicts like low-end IOPs - These don’t always list twelve step background on the postings, but if your “qualifier” is addiction then they’re going to want experience in the recovery ideology they operate with. Not a lot of Dharma programs out there and SMART is privatized, so it’s either group therapy or bootleg AA/NA.

Criminal background checks and clearance is FBI level in many cases depending on if the program or facility has state ties. Nights and weekends are the norm, many expect you to drive and supply your own vehicle, give people rides, travel a lot. Prisons. Treatment. Public housing. Sober housing. Trap houses. All kinds of neat field trips. If you don’t want this life, like really really really want this life and are willing to make zero money for an enormous amount of generally exhausting and thankless work, there are other treatment jobs available.
