I never once said that they have no issues or failings, as that is untrue. Every organization has room for improvement, and there are absolutely incidents of overreach and abuse. Luckily for us, though, these incidents are a microscopic stain on an otherwise overwhelmingly successful profession.
You’re indirectly quoting a domestic violence study that is nearly 40 years old and which has known errors, so I’m not even going to give that a response.
Qualified immunity does not protect an officer from making an illegal decision which another reasonable officer in the same situation would not make, but you don’t know that, you think it means a get out of jail free card for any bad incident which is patently incorrect but all to common.
I’m also 30, thanks, no letterman jacket or beaten wife here. You have a wide variety of uninformed opinions. You love domestic violence though it seems like. One thing I did several times as a cop was arrest people who had beaten their significant others, and seeing the relief on their bloodied faces is something that I personally enjoyed quite a bit. You wouldn’t know that feeling because you sit on the sidelines and regurgitate false information and vile accusations instead of actually doing something for your fellow man.
I’ve also done manhunts for armed bank robbers who put other people at risk, and responded to active shooter threats which luckily never materialized. I really enjoyed having a rifle for those scenarios and I’m sure you probably would have too, but if you still think letting cops have rifles is “militarization” then I guess you’d be fine entering those situations with nothing but a pistol and some soft armor.
You keep bringing up your military service as an appeal to authority, I was an infantryman and saw combat. I know a thing or two about militarization, and some dude carrying an M16 for an honor guard event ain’t it, chief.
All in all you’d do well to go touch some grass, let the manufactured hate vent out of your heart, and think logically about the outlandish statements that you’ve made in this thread which I have no doubt you fully believe.
