Coming home from work to wiggle butts and cuddles is my favorite thing.

Through my family and friends, as well as my own fur persons, I have come to know perhaps a double-dozen or more breeds well. That is, temperament, suitability with kids, energy level, trainability, and a couple of other qualities.

At the top of the "smart" list for me, are the Border Collie and the Boxer. I have owned a Border that saved a life, and my current Boxer made my spinal rehab a pleasure, and then switched her attention to my Bride when she developed her own medical issues. The Boxer knew I was "healed" and Mom's broken, so she might just need a Boxer, you never know.

This is the breed with the finest-tuned "antennae" for picking up people signals. They are the most emotionally invested in your well-being. My girl has brought me a toy in bed when I was ill. Before that, she had only done that at the entry door. I understand that not all members of this breed are this good. But I think a lot of people misread the signals dogs send.

The more you talk to your dog, the more they are going to "get", over time. I've had three different breeds learn to make the "ow" sound, like the word "our". Because they know it means "play", a top-three item on the dogs-love list. Simply "going out".

Only the Staffordshire Terrier can come close to matching the Boxer in "derp". And no, they do not share any common ancestors. Not one.

If I were going to do it again, I would plan on having two, about 4-5 years apart in age. Although, getting rescues would probably throw a monkey into the wrench.

Enjoy every day with your wiggle-butt. They are jewels, every one of them, and they shine brightest when they can reflect off the one they love.

Peace
