Would you recommend a Boxer for a first-time dog owner?

That is awesome that you have bonded so well with your boxer and training went smoothly! I was just speaking from experience in terms of what someone could end up with for a boxer. My mother had 6 boxers in her lifetime, and my own family is on our third. Our first American male was lost at age 9 to bone cancer. Our second American female we lost at age 10 to an inoperable brain tumor. We are crossing our fingers on our current Euro male, and we are hopeful he will live a long and healthy life. Each were remarkably different from the other in terms of overall personality. Our previous two were great with people but hated dogs. Our current boy loves dogs and most people under the right circumstances, but he has a very strong personality and will let you know if he doesn’t like what you’re doing. He is possibly the most stubborn boxer I have ever worked with, but we love him all the same! I thought it was important to point out certain characteristics that can occur with this breed that could turn someone off from committing to a boxer, since they’re less desirable traits (health issues, possibly strong personality, etc) often become the reason they are given up to shelters and rescue groups.
