Here's my current pet theory: NZ people are in an abusive relationship with the gov. (left and right) They blame the gov for all their problems, and in turn the gov does everything it can to make sure just enough people are just comfortable enough to not really hold anyone accountable for big issues. But no one does or demands more than the minimum.

Then the people keep voting in the same C grade people, because it serves their interests to keep everything as same-same as possible, while ensuring nothing material changes.

This leads to more complaining with more non-action. It's a never-ending cycle of striving for political mediocrity.
