First time au pair advice??

i think keeping an open mind is important but also find comfort in the fact that even if things don’t go exactly how you wanted, 1.5 months will fly by. that being said don’t settle! make sure you know exactly what your responsibilities are & what free time you will have to travel/relax. my family has a really good set schedule but i didn’t ask for it before i got here & wish i had so i knew what to expect. i got lucky & everything has turned out even better than i could have imagined but that’s not the case for everyone so definitely get all the details you can. as far as the language barrier- it can be tough. especially with the kid(s). the youngest i watch (4 y/o) only knows a few words & so when he wants something or is upset it can get frustrating. i find that knowing some basic words (yes, no, stop, come, different types of food, etc) in a language he knows & saying it after i say the word in english helps him understand & learn. that might be obvious but oh well. also- i don’t know your experience w kids but i personally had never been in a nanny like situation, just babysitting & sometimes it’s harder than i thought it would be. patience will get you far & try to figure out how the parents discipline. this was kind of a mess, hopefully it made sense & i hope it works out great for you! :)
