Does anyone have experience with Wohngenossenschaft?

i live in one but i’m not a member, i just sublet from my flatmate. i got reallllly lucky and found it through a WG site.

i was only meant to stay temporarily but now i can’t imagine going back to the old style of apartment. it’s very communal here, there are a lot of shared spaces inside and outside the building and we have people from all different ages, cultures, and backgrounds. my german has improved a ton, lol. and the rent is cheap, and it goes to improving the building or back into the community instead of to some scummy landlord.

the normal waiting list is years long, but now that i know a lot of people in the building, i have a decent shot at skipping it and getting a permanent place here if i’m lucky.

unfortunately, as with most things in the Berlin housing market, the most important things to getting a spot are luck, networking, or money. viel Glück!!
