Hoskins fan meter

My level of Hoskins appreciation is "I'll buy a Hoskins jersey if they sign him next year, but not before." I like the guy, I think he's the beating heart of the clubhouse on a man-to-man level, and I think the Phillies can owe a good deal of their brotherhood to his presence.

I also acknowledge that he can be a mess defensively and he can swing too quickly and too hard when he's trying to come in clutch, thus preventing him from actually coming in clutch.

But I also don't really know who they'll replace him with, if they do, and IF they do is a big IF because while statistically he's faltering, I think the front office likes him and believes in him as a person enough that he'd need to make a lot more serious mistakes in 2023 for them to let him go. Fans might (will) shout and scream about how his stats don't justify it and keeping a player for sentimental reasons is nonsense but I really do get the vibe they might re-sign him just because he's passable and they like him.

And if they do, I'll buy his jersey.

But not before.
