How far is understanding Bokmål from understanding native Norwegians?

Have been casually learning Norwegian for 3 years. I definitely wouldn't say people from Tromsø sound like aliens. As you you learn more Norwegian and just expose yourself to it a lot, your brain will grow a natural "broad" feel for the language. And with that comes a tolerance towards the differences in both speech and writing. At least that has been my experience.

Also, if you have perfectionist tendencies like me, you might recognize this:

If you struggle with this like I did, this is your biggest hurdle. Learning something that takes a long time, like a language, is NOT a perfect, short, indoor sprint. It's a huge cross country track. A grind. It's therefore much more important for you to (1) "just" begin running and (2) KEEP running even though you're not instantly rewarded. Don't focus on thinking of the optimal way/method to run and trying to be strict about adhering to it. Start and keep going.
