Is it hypocritical to legalize euthanasia and not suicide?

I think about this a lot. I don’t really have a definite answer to your question, and I’m very young, but I like working this out and breaking it down.

It’s interesting, because everyone wants to keep the people they love around as long as possible, so you have the whole when does your freedom become selfish and negatively affect others?. Also society views suicidal people as “sick”, suicidal ideations as an “illness”. As if one experiencing these tendencies has no control over these thoughts. And it’s true, they don’t. Thats why there’s an explainable diagnosis to account for this, right? Suffering is indeed subjective, but the interpretation of suffering can be identified by a mental illness that the host has no control over. However, if the person finds that simply, this illness equates to suffering, then should this not be invalidated? Everyone wants to invalidate suicidal thoughts because they are “involuntary”, but the suffering is very real.

So, I suppose the question is, is it the mental illness, or is it you?
