Those things have always been an issue, and violence against trans people is definitely a big deal.

Offline the lesbian thing really isn't as big an issue as it seems. People date who they want to date. I have a lot of lesbian friends and they're some of my closest confidants. I've been hit on by lesbians who knew I was trans both before and after bottom surgery. I've also gotten glares from lesbians (and lots of other types of people). There are always going to be bigots and bad people out there, but it's not everyone. Far from it. Maybe I'm more insulated from that because I'm in a long term relationship but the people participating in the online discourse seem to be just that: online.
