I think this is a key mistake he made.

He thought that growing up poor, they were the same.

What he didn’t understand was… it made him absurdly generous.

It made her greedy and grasping.

She absolutely never spent her own money when his would do… she got married, and mysteriously forgot how to purchase so much as a joint.

And then she goes over to his house post divorce, and pretends that he’s nickel and diming her in order to “have a few sips of his wine.” (Read: “distract him with my fake vitriol from noticing that I’m trying to get him drunk enough to let his guard down and let me spend the night.”)

She’s as transparent as glass.
