March 11, 2019 Banned and Restricted Announcement

The fact that there's NO commentary on Modern here I think says a lot.

The problems in the format are well known and have not changed since Twin was banned: It is the "first to goldfish the win" format in about 50% of match ups and the format overall lacks interaction when compared to the other eternal formats.

All of this information is known. The lack of answers is known by all of us and has been acknowledged by WotC in their honest recognition of that by intentionally printing answer cards into standard like Fatal Push, Silent Gravestone, and the other ones I can't remember off hand.

By saying nothing they've actually told us: hold your horses. We're printing an entire set of answers this summer to solve the larger problem in the format, not the flavor of the year problem in the format because that's always a moving target. We all know the problem in the format and that it has been this way for a long time. But the meta adjusts pretty well semi-annually on its own and we've shown, in general, a reasonable flux of deck diversity through various meta shifts over the long term. Your interaction is coming. We made a set for you.

Baseless speculation: We're going to get more powerful answers in Modern than we previously assumed we might.
