Someone on the daily OT was ranting about how one of her friends calls another group of friends “my friend group.” I guess this is offensive to them.

OP admitted that she’s NOT friends with these other people, it’s her friend’s boyfriends friends and partners, she tried to befriend them a while back but found them standoffish. And now she’s furious that her friend will say “my friend group” in reference to these people.

I would love to have these kinds of problems in life. Other folks were chiming in like “yeah, I’d be offended!!!” Offended that … everyone in the world isn’t friends with each other, and that if you’re referring to a group of people you can causally say “oh I got drinks with my friend troop last night” and not “I got drinks with people who you know but aren’t friends with, and they’re my friends but just so you know, you’re also my friend.” Like genuinely what does she want her friend to say? Is she offended because she assumes she’s part of her friend’s friend group, therefore saying “my friend group” is exclusive? Does she know … many people have many groups of friends who don’t interact with each other?
