I also feel you should consider an alternate meaning g for this story beside suicide given the character’s orientation (villain), destroying the universe (intent), request if he will be adored and respected by many..for what? Destroying the universe…what will he receive? Nothing, suppression of his emotions. Depression is anger turned inwards. He needs to be asked directly “Have you been having thoughts of harming yourself or committing suicide” as well as “do you ever gave thoughts of harming others?” But not by you, by the therapist and don’t wait. He needs a safety check and you need to evaluate your home for lethal means, etc.
