We must offend religion more: Islam, Christianity and our tolerance for ancient myths, harmful ideas -- Our enduring deference to religion, despite its toxicity and phony explanations for the cosmos, lets it survive

His definition of faith is entirely distinct from the common conception, not simply a reworked version of something that was shit to begin with.

Gotcha well maybe he and I are talking about the same thing but I refuse to call it Faith, because at the end of my reasoning I hope for the best but plan and expect the worst which is only to say that I let things happen and would like to think times ahead will be surrounded by positive energy but prepare myself for the bleak so that I will have the best chance at survival. I do not however believe something will happen just because I believe it to follow my bias. If i happened to be wrong I would say hmmm well I guess that belief was false and I would find a new approach, granted I do believe in chaos and that anything that can happen will eventually happen. I guess you call it faith I just figure I made my decision and now I have to live with it because of cause and effect and I don't trump it up to anything more than that because anything more than that is all concepts myths and dreams that only exist in my fallible human brain.

What sort of inherent fallacies are there that perpetuate and breed hate and intolerance? Do you have your answer? Good. Now replace the word 'religion' above with 'self-help book/system'. Is your answer the same? Why or why not?

The inherent fallacy is Faith. Which is my only point, religion is an attempt to define Faith and do do not believe faith is truly definable another point that I think we both agree on. I do agree that as humans we are all fallible and that is my point any concept of Faith that we try to define will be wrong period because

That's an oversimplification. We all use faith whether we are aware of it or not because there is a limit to reason. Reason cannot be used to justify reason, since this is a circular argument. (More on this in the next section.)

This right here you keep saying we like you and I use the same

How did you derive this 'FACT' that we live in a rational tangible and understandable universe? I know the answer. You used reason.
