THE DUMBENING: How the Right Deliberately Confuses the Loss of Power with the Loss of Liberty

She was partnered with Greg Lukianoff of FIRE on that IQ1 debate. I watched the web broadcast live. I honestly cannot imagine a better case being made than the case the pair put forward. I quoted (paraphrased would be the less generous qualifier) her from that debate (which they won) in an interview later that week.

I cannot see how the stifling of opinion that you do not like, the threats to employment, or the callow calls for dis-invitation sweeping American campus would be considered anything else but a fiat censorship.

TRIGGER WARNING: There are people of goodwill and without malice in the world that disagree with you.

How can anyone expect to have their ideals taken seriously when of their own volition they devalue them to the point that they cannot withstand outside scrutiny? Decades ago, the Liberal Left fought for these rights on campus while campus administrators called them outside agitators to be removed and expelled. Today, it's these very former protestors abandoning Liberal values on the alter of a progressive pogrom that are using these very same words, outside agitators and troublemakers, to describe those whom express contrary viewpoints.

Powers's book, The Silencing: How the Left is Killing Free Speech is well worth a read even if you disagree with the premise. And frankly, if you overlook her association with FNC, I would be surprised if you didn't come to the same conclusions she does.

The distinction between public and private is one that has long discussed, but the fact is, public is simply held to a higher standard as well it should be and arguing a false equivalency to lower that standard is foolhardy at best and shortsighted in the extreme. And the curtailing of the right to hear opinions on a public campus, regardless of the content should worry you. And that is the thesis the DailyKos is belittling.
