Here's my take. No matter what Isayama wrote, the death threats against him, especially in this sub, is inexcusable.

This is more or less what we said about Armin thanking Eren for committing genocide back when the official translations for 139 weren’t released. And certainly, he didn’t literally thank Eren for genocide (saying “thank you for becoming a mass murderer for our sake” instead), but what he said essentially amounted to it. You’ll realize when you talk to people that you often will have to read between the lines. For example, we all know that when a mob boss says “I don’t wanna see him no more,” that’s clearly code for “kill him.” Similarly, when consuming a piece of writing you’ll have to look at two levels - the actual, literal text on the page, and the underlying subtext. So when it came to Armin’s case believe me I couldn’t believe such trash dialogue made it to the final draft either. The subtext there was already bad, and when the official translation, the literal text, came out it was still just as bad. In this new Mikasa situation - the subtext is pretty bad. She didn’t literally thank Ymir for being raped, no, but what she said essentially amounted to it. And if it’s anything like the Armin situation - believe me, I hope it’s not, Mikasa’s already bad enough as it is - then the official translation won’t be much different from what we currently have
