New HTPC Build monthly thread - August 2022

Hi

I'm thinking about replacing my old Lenovo M83 PC because it only supports two 3.5" drives and because I just like messing around with PC's.

I've found the case and are now planning the CPU which would then decide motherboard, ram etc. I found this guide: https://techbuyersguru.com/guide/the-best-1000-high-end-4k-home-theater-pc-build/ for this CPU: https://www.proshop.dk/CPU/Intel-Core-i5-12400F-Alder-Lake-CPU-6-kerner-25-GHz-Intel-LGA1700-Intel-Boxed/3024245

I was wondering if it's overkill? I'll access the HTPC over LAN and it'll be used for streaming Plex, hosting a Minecraft server, being used for backup of our phone data and running a few virtual machines. I'm mainly looking for something that has a low idle wattage as the PC will be turned on 24/7 and the current energy prices are very high.

Thanks in advance.
