pay window tips

Don’t read them back their complete order ( let me finish) . Both I and a lot of other people at my store who go fast at pay window shorten the reading back of the order in some way. The way I do it is say everything totaled up. For instance, “you had two double doubles, three cheeseburgers two fries a coke and a pink lemonade?” ... they say yes “for a total of $24.75 please” even though they may have had some with onions some without no tomatoes etc I just read them those big parts of the order as I’ve found this usually speeds things up. Also a lot of the time people pay with card so I’ll press the credit button before hand and get it ready so all they have to do is insert or tap the card. Almost everyone I know also asks if the customer wants their receipt even though we are told to give them the receipt. A lot of customers don’t actually want the receipt and this way as soon as the card is approved you can have them pull forward to the next window and keep cars rolling. Some people say the total first and read back the order as the transaction is being processed but I find this can be risky because cars may be out of order and this could be a greater risk of you charging the wrong car. Also get stacks of lap mats ready before hand. You will most commonly give 2 or three lap mats to a car. A lot of people will also be sitting at the window just smiling for no reason after you have finished the transaction so I like to say with a smile and a thumbs up “you are all set” and this usually gets the point across that they need to pull forward. I’m sure this might be a bit confusing but let me know if I can answer anything more specific for you and/or if this helped
