[Rules Megathread] Ask all rules questions here! 2022 edition

I ordered the riverfolk hireling pack to try the hirelings for the first time and I’m quite excited. My question is in regard to the setup of these. Every piece of rules I have been able to find in regard of how to setup hirelings and how they work has come from the Law of Root in the advanced setup (always explains to setup the hirelings in combination with the advanced setup I believe). The thing is, I have never used ADSET. Do I need ADSET to play with hirelings? If not, how would I even do this?

Another question I had is in regards to ADSET itself. I love the balance changes made with set up, but I hate the idea of drafting factions instead of choosing beforehand what I want to play. So, can I do away with this part of the setup and just leave some of the other balance changes (like five cards and new set ups for each faction)?
