No. NO! (Why would you even think this is the case?!?!)
This literally disables the VPN and makes torrenting visible to ISP & any intermediary.
That said, a VPN only protects you sufficiently if no one highly skilled is tracing you. For instance, NSA isn't stopped by a VPN.
If you initiate a torrent dload, the traffic is recognizable. If you VPN, the traffic content is obscured -- but anyone paying attention could figure out based on looking at bandwidth that you're downloading a file. And nowadays, as I said, anyone with sufficient computing power can break encryption and see what you're doing.
But a VPN makes detection much harder.
