The silver-lining

Why does a fight have to be the way they interact? Haven’t they fought enough? The Last Agni Kai was clearly heartbreaking and something neither of them should have had to experience.

Zuko’s whole character arc is meant to represent perseverance despite circumstances and acceptance of oneself. Suddenly making it so that Zuko beats Azula in some epic match would seem like pandering. Azula is externally intelligent and skilled but internally she falters. Zuko is internally strong but externally not the level as his sister. It’s the yin and yang aspects like that which make the show realistic and not feel like some fan service anime where the hero suddenly becomes super powerful compared to the villain.

Yes, they stalemate at the Western Air Temple. Yes, he learned the Dancing Dragon forms. Yes, he showed some knowledge of dragon type flames in Smoke and Shadow. Yes, he wa dominant in the Last Agni Kai until she shot lightning at Katara. But I personally think she is a more innovative fighter, can get into people’s heads, and strategizes well. Regardless of what your opinion on that is, the whole point of them is not to keep trying to assert who is stronger than who, and doing that is a disservice to the characters.
