Firstly, that ship in Metropolis was working at some % of functionality, and he did "learn" from the computer, well, basically "knowledge from 3,000 years" or something. Its not out of the realm of possibility that he specifically wanted to learn about HOW to make something which can defeat a Kryptonian. Zod is used for the body, Lex is used for DNA, and boom, you have something with Zod's physical powers and Lex's inner, deep hatred for Superman.

Well, you say the fight was not visually interesting, to me, it was; sure it could have been better, no doubt! Nevertheless, i for one enjoyed it for what it was, THE TRINITY going up against one of Superman's best villains, who was responsible for his Death in Action Comics #75, one of the greatest comics ever imo

As for Lois Lane, she did trigger that entire African problem scene! She was crucial to Lex's plan! Granted it very convoluted, but a plan nonetheless! And Lois is important to provide moral support to Clark. She believes in him in a time the world does not, sure she is the damsel in distrell for like 2 minutes in the end, but that is to bring Superman from his hiatus back.
