Fusions, No. 25, was born on March 25 and used the number for years in traditional games and sports before reaching the OWL. Valentine, No. 14, based both his BattleTag and number on his February 14 birthday.
Like Fusions, Myunbong reached back to his past for his jersey number, saying that he’s used No. 13 since he was a student. He was often the 13th kid to be called during school attendance and stuck with the number ever since.
As a member of the Toronto Defiant, im37 naturally chose No. 37. But when re-entering the league this year with Boston, he re-evaluated his choice. He’ll sport No. 1 this year, which he thinks looks simple and cleaner on a jersey than the two-digit No. 37.
Speaking of aesthetics, Punk’s jersey number is also loosely based on looks. No. 5 has long been his go-to choice because he always liked the fluorescent orange color of the 5 ball in pool.
Stand1 chose No. 3 because it’s his lucky number, a fact that turned out to be unlucky for OWL rookie Faith. Faith also wanted No. 3, but since Stand1 joined the team first, the number was already taken by the time Faith signed. Instead, Faith did the next best thing and picked No. 33, since it’s No. 3, but twice.
SoOn also experienced some frustration when he first joined the OWL and chose his jersey number. During his time on the Los Angeles Valiant, he and Verbo both wanted No. 13. SoOn said he wanted to be nice, so he let Verbo have it. His next choice was No. 24, but uNKOE wanted it since it’s his birthday number. Again, SoOn gave up his choice since he had beaten out other teammates on who would get the biggest room in the team house. Finally, not knowing what to do next, SoOn gave up and chose No. 99, the jersey number of fictional superstar Krusher99 in the Overwatch League reveal video from BlizzCon 2016. He’ll continue with that number in Boston.”
