Straight male fans

honestly the one thing that stands out to me most in this reply is the very, very obvious difference between how lesbians and straight men view our separate lives.

What stands out to me most about this reply is that you haven't argued with much logic, slyly ignored some important points, and haven't really refuted a single thing I said without either going after a distorted version of what I said or drawing up a false equivalency.

you say that straight men are not catered to, and that you are no publicly advocated for; this is because straight men have never needed public advocation! the status quo is that you are never, ever not going to be catered to, and this simply isn’t a luxury that lgbt people and women have.

You're having a very difficult time grasping this extremely simple concept. The fact that lots of straight men exist in music and what have you does not mean that straight men are being catered to. Do you get that? There is nothing being specifically aimed at us. The bands that Tegan mentioned in that interview splice are just a few good examples. There are simply more straight men on earth than LGBT people. It's not that hard. Getting back on topic, specifically championing gay issues and the like as a band isn't even in the same sport as being a straight musician who just so happens to have a lot of straight fans. It's a tremendously false equivalency. If you don't understand that at this point, there's nothing else I can do for you.

how many times have i been disappointed because a celebrity or musician i admired turned out to be a misogynist, a homophobe, etc.? how many times have i been questioned to see if i’m a “real fan” just because i’m a woman?

This is irrelevant and it's treading close to that vindictive mentality all over again. It doesn't make it ok to have it happen to other people in turn just because you say it happened to you.

when you said that the indie world isn’t hostile to minorities anymore, i had to laugh. look, i’m not a professional musician or a journalist so my credentials obviously aren’t there but to assert that homophobia and misogyny have been wiped clean from the indie world in the past 10 years is very, very idealistic. it’s something i would dream up as a 12 year old who thinks racism is over because we don’t have slavery anymore.

You can go back and read what I said again. I never said it was gone 100%. I said it's pretty damn accepting now. Those are not the same. You are once again going after a distorted version of what I said. I am a musician and have been around those scenes for years, and they are brick-shit loaded with liberal progressive bands who are all down with that kind of thing. In fact, indie rock, especially in the U.S. and Canada, is practically a minefield of the types of bands who aren't in the least bit misogynist or homophobic. It's not like that 100%, and I never said it was, but overall it is a very progressive (albeit expansive) sub genre. That comment about slavery is really stupid and yet another false equivalency based on an argument I never made. After all the naive points you've made and your vindictive spiteful comments (including one coming up) regarding straight men's place among T&S fans in the context of how you've felt in more "straight" oriented indie scenes, you picked a very poor time to insinuate my immaturity and ignorance. I like that snarky 12 year old remark though.
