D&D are the showrunners of GOT. We hate them for ruining game of thrones. They have admitted they wanted to be done with the show to move on to other projects. That is fine, but the fact that they couldn't let go of their prides and give the showrunner job to another person isn't. They wouldn't even listen to George Martin which is why he pretty much distanced himself from the show. I've read they have a bulletproof contract that says HBO cannot legally make GOT episodes without them.

The show should have had at least 10 seasons with 10 episodes. Season 7 was pretty bad, but bearable because it still felt like we would get a satisfying payoff to 9 years. Instead we a got a rushed poorly written season that forgot all the thematic build up of previous seasons. HBO offered to fund 10 episodes, but D&D only wanted 6. The unbeatable white walkers were beaten in one episode in the lamest way possible with no reveals on their culture, motivations. We got a typical bad guy (something GRRM despises) Characters act ridiculously stupid in order to advance the plot, character arcs have been completely crushed into the ground (Jaime) and so much more.
