Damn, I guess this makes sense but I really thought the way the story was being formulated would work for a general audience.

The trailer made it seem like the movie would cover the stories of Armada, Mang0, and PPMD on their quests to become the #1 player, with the climax being PPMD winning Apex 2015. It would have left out A TON, but I feel like a general audience could have followed the story without issue, learned about the pressures of trying to be the best, and enjoyed a feel good ending.

But, It seems that a series is more suited for how things have played out and continue to play out in the present. In the end, I think the issue is that Apex 2015, while being the biggest tourney of its time, was then topped by Evo that same year giving that event more significance towards answering the question: who is the best?

As long as melee continues its growth, and each year continues to have a new 'biggest tournament' you can't neatly wrap up a narrative of melee since each top player's story arc continues to develop.
