Mislabeling of Shows as Slice of life (SoL)
Slice of life is a broad category used to describe any anime that occurs in the typical high school setting.Unfortunately, in recommendation thread sometimes I see people use it to describe almost anything. To makes things simple, I would describe SoL as anime with two defining features : cute people doing mundane things and the lack of story plot

While the shows below do indeed have Sol elements, they have done so much more to deserve a different labelling:

Clannad: While this show is undoubtedly Sol, it takes the slice and goes one step further then takes it three steps further. Clannad portrays the passage of life and time thoroughly, the characters, the music and even the town changes with each episodes. It shows all certainties of anime : life, death and tsunderes. Clannad isn't a Sol, it's the whole thing just life.rewatch starts this Friday

The melanchony of Suzumiya Haruhi. Haruhi starts of slife of life, a boy named Kyon meets a girl named Haruhi, who is a little bit of eccentric. Ten minutes later, slice of life ends there and we are thrown into an "everything" anime. The show has almost everything : wacky baseball game, romance, humongous mecha, epic musical performance, murder mystery, time travelling, time looping, snow white, blackmail, and to top it off a good movie at the end. In the same way "Bebop is Bebop", "Haruhi is Haruhi"

Shirobako. Miyamori Aoi may be juggling the stress of a 9-5 job, but Shirobako is closer to Drama/Documentery e.g mythbuster, pawnstars. Every season is dedicated to an overarching goal: Making a cour of anime, with every aspect of anime creation rerecreated accurately. The show uses it's ensemble cast to dedicate every episode to a specific character or a specific animation process. It even had an episode paying homage to the "ring around the collar" technique like Tom and Jerry.

Nisekoi/s While some may label Nisekoi as Sol due to its utter lack of plot progression , Nisekoi is more of a Shaft war-miniseries like Band of Brothers. On one side, there is the Loyalist fractions vying for peace using classic Guerrilla tactics like the classic "tsun and dere". On the other, they are new challenger Dera worshippers favoring defensive warfare by standing still and camouflaging themselves in the background. /r/nisekoi has been so battered it is now in ruins , but based of reports of stragglers there seems to be a Dera rebellion ongoing.
