Why is there so much hate towards Pokemon Lets Go?

I’m a die hard fan, been playing since I was around 4-5 (Yellow was out then). I’ve seen every up and down this series has had. Let’s Go is definitely skewing towards the bad for several reasons.

  1. The Look of the game.

The game just looks poorly made. The surface level graphics are not awful, but some of the animation is straight up offensive compared to games like Stadium or Battle Revolution. There are only the base 150 (+2) Pokemon. Why is Pikachu statically hopping during double kick? Why does Blastoise still not shoot from it’s cannons? I understand when 800+ Pokemon are involved they can’t animate every single Pokemon to look great, but god damn there’s only the originals here and it’s like a joke.

There’s also no excuse for it being a 1:1 scale remake of a 20 year old Gameboy map

  1. The Pokemon selection

The fact that there are only the original batch is also a downside. Think of all the variety, both in the wild and in the gyms/Elite 4 if we had all of the available Pokemon.

Pokemon is about the POKEMON, and there’s a rich history behind each one. People saying “this is a good thing” are foolish because there are so many expertly designed Pokemon, so many fan favorites, that it makes no sense to exclude them outside of some weird revisionist history motive.

I understand they want to attract “normies” and ease them in, but it’s going to be at a breakneck pace either way because 700 Pokemon are getting dumped onto them next game plus even more if they stick around. It’s selfish to say “THERES ONLY ONE TRUE GEN”, which brings me to my next point.

  1. The media selfishly spinning this game as some kind of normie triumph.

As I said I was there when Pokemania started and I was there when people started making fun of people who played the games openly. Pokemon is all inclusive, yes, but it has grown so much that ignoring most of its history to cater to people who stopped caring is ridiculous. I’ve heard heinous things like:

“The games arent FOR YOU”

“The games are for ORIGINAL FANS”

Etc etc.

I am an original fan as are millions of others. How foolish would I sound if I tried to “claim” a generation as my own, and decried other generations Pokemon they love?

It’s quickly becoming a “if you dont like LGPE you’re in the wrong” mindset. When really, its perfectly okay to question GameFreaks utter laziness and pandering to people who never really cared about Pokemon.

  1. People are going to beat it in 5 hours and be SORELY disappointed

  2. Once Bank rolls around, the starters are staying put in LGPE for several reasons. Thats not gonna fly well.

So all in all, its a poorly baby game meant to bring in people who don’t actually care about Pokemons rich history, who will drop the games like a hot potato once the 2019 game comes out. Oh and you should feel bad for not liking it according to the media and Reddit.
