The extra ending on this felt to much like Twilight Zone trying to be Black Mirror. A show I quit watching halfway through, because the point of that show IS to be mean and cruel

It really isn't, though. It goes to dark places, sure, but Black Mirror is never mean for the sake of mean. There's almost ways an underlying reason for the cruelty. Also, the tone on that show definitely gets a little lighter as it goes along. I'm guessing you gave up around season 2? Well, there's one (arguably 2) episode in season 3 that has a happy ending, plus three episodes in season 4 with a happy ending. ("Happy," may be a bit much, but I'd certainly consider them to be optimistic.)
