Do Your Prefer Freestanding or Trekking Pole Shelters for Bikepacking 3 seasons?

I haven't taken my overnight gear on the bike yet, but I've been extremely medium-whelmed by the trek pole shelter thing when backpacking on foot. It's fine. I like the poles for steep mountain switchback type stuff, and I admit I've been to a lot of places where there wouldn't be a suitable or legal/ethical way to use local materials/surroundings instead of poles, so they've been necessary, but only because of the shelter (bug net and tarp) setup I assembled.

I think carrying the trek poles on the bike sounds kind of insane unless I've got a trailer specifically so I can bike to a trailhead, then do a multi-night backpack on foot. They're not super heavy, but they're such a stupid size and shape (with carbide tips that do terrifying things to most materials with a light accidental caress), and don't do anything for you while you ride.

For the bike (and backpacking), I've been thinking about just buying a bivy to sleep in and then stringing a tarp up with the bike for an outside gear hutch/place to keep the rain off before bed/in the morning. I'd swap the bivy out with my hammock and top/bottom quilts for my bag and pad if I knew I'd be around good trees for the duration, though. Especially in the summer. I'd do hammock and just my regular sleeping bag if it's warm enough weather this summer, now that I think about it. Kept me warm enough before... That would be a really easy setup to pack on the bike...
