anti-theist/atheist thoughts on folk religions?

I alao think ideas about the divine from civilization is cultural pollution from "normal" more functional human reasoning. I think tribes like the Pirahã with their what we might call a kind empiricism and deep trust for there senses and feelings, is far more indicative of how humans in tribal societies actually think and thought. You wouldn't survive long if you didn't have your wits about you and were not easily deceived. Platonic and Neo-Platonic notions of deity, or even what passes for conceptions of "animism " with :everything having a soul" paint the ancients and the tribal people as fools, when they likely had to be far more smart and cunning than our sedentary lifestyles require of us.
