why aren't there many homeless women?

I had a friend who volunteered at one of the local women's shelters who had a warped view of homelessness because of it. They won take literally any women and if they didn't have enough room, they would get funding for trailers to house more people and put people up in hotels in the meantime. Didn't matter if they were on drugs, violent offenders, smelled of liquor...

She thought all the homeless men just decided to live on the streets and were there because it was their fault. She couldn't believe that there was only 15 beds in the men's shelter and if they ran out, too bad. Because the women's shelter would regularly house over 50 people a night in the winter, and up to 80 with overflow.
