Occasionally it knows the exact IV without needing appraisal, which is nice, but when it isn't sure Calcyiv has always given an IV range which can be further narrowed down through using in-game appraisal then pressing the app button a second time.

It used to do it by reading each of the prompts the team leader would speak as the key to narrow down 50-76% to 66%, for example. Now it uses the new star appraisal system to pinpoint where in the initial range is the real IV. If I see something appraised at 30-40% I'm probably just going to toss it away without appraising further, but if I see something appraised 70-96% I'm going to do a second scan (either manually pressing the button or while autoscan is running) with the in game appraisal up to narrow it down further.
